Helping my daughter work through some “Facts of Life” this week and finishing up the lesson and sermon last week at Celebrate Recovery on “RELAPSE.” Working my Step Study class as well completing “Sanity.” These have both been great lessons in helping me to use my coping skills and boundaries this week and with hopes of familiarizing Celebrate Recovery and the Step Study Program to The Georgia Mental Health Consumer Network as The Mental Health Courts of The Alcovy Judicial Circuit along with criminal courts as well often court Order individuals to attend Celebrate Recovery and the Step Study programs at Eastridge Community Church in Covington where I am a ministry partner and attend growth group study as well on Sundays in my 11th year of recovery as the family violence victim and codependent caregiver and enabler.
Lies, Denial, Minimizing and Rationalizing lead to Relapse. Being with the wrong people in the wrong places at the wrong time also leads to relapse. This is part of Satan’s big plan. Taking advice from unhealthy people. Some people just do not use the common sense factor. People lack a common sense factor.
You do not slip into relapse, it takes a lot of digging. Put the shovel down and stop digging. Genesis 50:20 If relapse is not the death of us it can be a new beginning. We are tempted as long as we are breathing. Relapse could be the death of us. Today is the 1st day of the rest of your life. You must have a Relapse Prevention Plan in place. Sobriety is different from recovery.
ACT on the RELAPSE Acrostic. Work the Steps and Principles to the best of your ability. HALT. Inventory yourself honestly. Are you Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired? Or do a HEART check are you Hurting, Exhausted, Angry, Resentful or Tense? Gain support. Be an active part of meetings, call your accountability partners & sponsors. Be Honest with yourself, God and others. Allow others to speak truth to you. Deal with stressful situations, don’t isolate and ignore them. Stress is a trigger. Journal your thoughts, good & bad. Keep records of your successes and refer back to them. Plan your days. Let your sponsors or accountability partners know where you are, especially if you are recently sober. Make “routine” a part of your life. Make a plan. Identify and plan for high – risk situations. Everyone faces high – risk situations at some time – you will find yourself in situations where you want to escape. These situations can be handled more easily if you know ahead of time what they will be. Make a plan and practice what you will do or say, so you do not worry about what to do under pressure. You can avoid relapse.
Reserve a daily quiet time.
Listen to Jesus
Alone and quiet time
Plug into God’s power through prayer
Slow down long enough to hear God’s answer
Enjoy your growth
Reserve a daily time with God for self – examination, Bible reading, and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow HIs will.
Step 11 We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for the knowledge of His will for us and power to carry that out.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly Colossians 3:16 NIV
At New Rock we work the WRAP Plan. Wellness Recovery Action Plan.
I have worked on the following in my WRAP Plan:
Hope, personal responsibility, education, self – advocacy, support, daily maintenance plan, early warning signs, crisis plan and triggers.
I have discovered through Celebrate Recovery that by and through my Covington News blog I have taken a Daily Detox Inventory of my life’s events and accounts for last 4 years of my life while blogging at The Coviington News and spending time in the community and in my career as a nursing assistant over the last year.
Additional Notes from my growth group study class this week:
Follow the Word – Follow Christ. Disobedient – Obedient in Christ. Subject to God’s anger – Connects in Love. Satan’s power – The Holy Spirit’s power. Gratifying cravings – Constraint and happiness. Angry – Discernment. Being Christ consumed is Joy. The Fruits of the Spirit.
Our Nature. The World’s System.
Even while we are worldly, lustful and fleshly
God made us alive.
God raised us up.
God seas us in Heaven.
We are a new Creation
Ephesians 111 : 20 Phil. 3 : 20, 21
If you follow Christ you know this is not home. We are citizens of Heaven.
Revelation 3:21 We will sit with Christ on His throne and be given assignments. We are there in spirit now.
Reconciliation with God. Bringing thing’s back to the way he wants them to be. With is rich mercies and great love.
What does this reveal to me about the Character of God?
He cares for us even though we are sinners. he loves us even though we are not lovable. He started loving us even when we were dead. From the foundation of the World. When you are dead to sin you are numb. Sin does not bother you. He started loving us even when we were holy and dead. He loved us when we were dead to our sins. We are created in his image.
Working further this week on telling your “Testimony” and “If you are ready, you do not have to get ready.”
I plan on teaching a class at New Rock of View Point Health on RELAPSE and on the Sanity Lesson as studied in Celebrate Recovery and in my Step Study class in collaboration with the Mental Health Courts of The Alcovy Judicial Circuit sharing in these wonderfully awesome programs of study in recovery.
