The Fruits of the Spirit. Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self – Control.

On this cold and wet Georgia afternoon I am warmed by my mug of coffee and the facts of the 9 Fruits of the Spirit that were discussed this morning at church in growth group class. And our upcoming lesson next week on Fruit to good works and good deeds. What a great study and lecture today was and so looking forward to next weeks lesson. It will keep me excited all week long.

As I prepare for the Ladies Step Study class this evening I am in my warm apartment with my warm hoodie and coffee studying on The Best of All is Love and my lesson on the 9 Fruits of the Spirit and Action this afternoon.

When I very first attended Eastridge I was homeless in the summer of 2012 and was staying in a one bedroom the size of a closet at the time I attended with a friend I had met and invited me to church in 2012 and basically homeless and with no food at the time. I was truly struggling with no support system there for several weeks of that summer and fall.

I was so touched by the service that I have been attending off and on now for 3 plus years and a regular ministry partner for the last year. I have been involved with Sunday morning worship service, Celebrate Recovery, A growth group study class, Ladies Step Study and making application for Stephen Ministry credits and training hours coming up in December or first of January of the new year. I am hoping that others have seen in me also through my career as a nursing assistant the 9 Fruits of the Spirit. I will discuss them a little further here.

Ephesians 2 : 8-10

What saves us? Grace. God’s unmerited favor we receive through our faith. Water flowing through but it is communicated through the hose. Faith is the water. The hose does not quench your thirst. Faith is a gift of salvation. Salvation is the gift. Which is Greek. Who created us? God did. He created us with the power or ability to believe. The act of faith does not believe or repent for us we must do it and surrender and ask God to have his way.

You cannot earn it. Faith based so we would not boast of our works. We would boast if so. His plan is that he will receive the glory. The hurting are missing and need Christ. Making disciples. Recognize the opportunity. Somebody needs to talk to them. The Holy Spirit is convicting you. Be sensitive to people around you that are lost. May not come across as unhappy or lost but truly are.

This is a guideline and not a checklist. Sometimes you just need to listen to the other.

Listen.

We all sin. Humility. Eye to Eye talk. But Jesus loves you he came to this earth and died for you as a sacrifice.

“Tell Your Story” It gives credibility speaking from experience. Have peace and joy. A peace that surpasses all understanding. From valley to mountain top no burden of guilt. You must have confession of sin. Tell them it is available to them. Can I pray for you? And Follow Up!

Follow up and connect them to other believers. Follow through and get connected with someone. Eternity hangs in the balance. Be a witness.

He saved us so we could be with him in heavenly places. We are his workmanship. He created us we were made and created by him. If anyone is in Christ he is a new Creation and the old things are passed away. You are born again. Anew. Character, motive, nature, personality are all anew.

You are known by your Fruit.

Saying the right things does not save us. Religious services, works, grace through faith saves us. Jesus in Matthew says a heart filled under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, false prophets and pharisees were those who were claiming to do the right things. Professing to be a Christian. Hypocrites in church and there is an element of truth to this.

The Fruit Analogy

When you are saved you receive the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 1 : 13 – 14 Romans 8:9 Fruit. Holy Spirit is received. Fruit of the Spirit.

Galatians 5 : 22-23

Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self – Control.

You need to have a self – examination. We often miss clues. The Holy Spirit needs to take control.

Love is a deliberate attitude of goodwill towards others and not expecting anything back. Agape Love. Am I motivated to do for others as Christ has done for me? Doing it to be recognized or admired or doing it because Christ wants you to?

Joy unlike happiness Joy is gladness that is independent and supernatural experience that seems to show up in hard times. Rejoice and be glad in it. The Joy of Christ in your heart.

Peace is not the absence of turmoil but tranquility in chaos. Do I find myself frazzled or with a peace that surpasses all understanding?

Patience is long suffering. The ability to endure ill treatment without lashing out and not getting bitter. To spite being mistreated. Enduring from others without paying them back. Godly perspective in the light of the situation.

Kindness. When kindness is at work he/she looks for ways to meet others and the absence of malice.

Who are you reflecting? Too confused? We should let it overflow to others. Bitter, unkind, malice and jealousy is wrong.

Goodness. Kindness is the soft side of good. Goodness in you desires to see the goodness of others. Look for a spark of good in someone. They bind on each other. Kindness and goodness. Not beyond confronting others to get right with the Lord. Does my life reflect the Holy life of God?

Faithfulness. A faithful person is one of integrity. Spirit controlled faithfulness seek goodness for others and the Glory to God. Look for the good in others. Are there ones of hypocrisy?

Gentleness. Meekness is not weakness. Forgives and connects with kindness not a hot head. There shall be punishment and consequences says the Lord but he is “Just.”

Correct but not out of anger and ill will. Different but included in each other. Brash, headstrong. Grace to overflow from me to others.

Self Control Our fleshly desires are at continued odds with God such as pride, selfishness, revenge and envy. Fleshly desires want to control us. It is power focused in the right place. Letting him come in instead of me or the fleshly desires control my life.

Waling is your daily living. When we follow the spirits he leads us to produce fruit. he convicts us that things are not in proper order in our lives. Having the Holy Spirit will convict you.

God promises if we admit to live above ourselves and the great life he has provided for us. The real prosperity is the fruits of the spirit. We cannot achieve these on our own. He will help us bear fruit. He will convict us. Am I actually depending on the Holy Spirit to direct me in God’s ways? Next week to come is Fruit to good works and good deeds.

So looking forward to next weeks lesson!
